Wuhan FC vs Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic
Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic head to the Jiangyin Stadium to take on Wuhan FC, frantically looking over their shoulders as the Chinese Super League relegation fight enters the final phase.
Wuhan enjoyed a flying start to their relegation group campaign, winning their opening two such Super League fixtures by 4+ goals ‘to two’ to set the tone for a safe path to another top-flight season. However, they have since experienced a noticeable dip in form, going winless in their last five matches in a row (D3, L2) to throw their survival hopes into doubt. A lack of ruthlessness in front of goal has seen Wuhan draw a blank in three of their last four Super League outings, as they now languish a mere four points clear of relegation-threatened Dalian Pro. To get back to winning ways, the ‘Han Army’ will have to rediscover their scoring mojo, especially considering they’ve failed to find the net in their last two league H2Hs (D1, L1).
Meanwhile, Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic’s hopes of preserving their top-flight status are hanging by a thread, as they sit just one point adrift of Dalian. Since the Super League returned to action in December, the visitors have scored one goal or less in all seven league fixtures, picking up just one win in the process (D3, L3). On the bright side, though, Chongqing eked out a narrow 1-0 win at Dalian in their most recent Super League travel, ending a run of nine away league matches without a victory (D2, L7). A shutout at Dalian was their first and only Super League clean sheet on hostile turf this season, highlighting the importance of breaking the deadlock. Indeed, they have lost six of the seven away league games when conceding first this term (D1).
