Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester United

Manchester United’s troubled Premier League campaign continues at Molineux Stadium as they take on in-form Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolverhampton eased past fellow Black Country rivals West Bromwich Albion 2-0 in the FA Cup fourth round at the weekend to extend their unbeaten streak in all competitions to seven games (W4, D3 – 90mins only). Another clean sheet could be on the cards as Gary O’Neil’s side held Brighton to a scoreless away draw in their last Premier League outing, making it two consecutive top-flight matches without conceding. However, scoring could be a more severe problem for Wolves, considering they’ve lost their last three Premier League games against Manchester United without scoring, including a narrow 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford on the opening weekend. Keen to avenge that result, the ‘Wanderers’ can rely on their formidable form at Molineux, having gone unbeaten in all nine competitive home contests since mid-September (W6, D3).

In the meantime, Manchester United took a confidence boost from a pulsating 4-2 FA Cup victory against lower-league Newport in the build-up to this trip following a goal-glutted 2-2 home draw against Tottenham Hotspur in their last Premier League assignment. With pressure mounting on Erik ten Hag, the ‘Red Devils’ can’t afford a slip-up in the West Midlands after failing to win any of their last four league matches outside Old Trafford (D1, L3). What’s worse, before a dismal 2-1 loss to bottom-half Nottingham Forest toward the end of 2023, Man Utd had drawn a blank on three successive top-flight travels. But despite netting precisely once in six of their seven Premier League visits to Molineux since a 1-0 loss in 2004, they’ve been regular on the scoresheet against Wolves.
