West Ham United vs Everton
West Ham United and Everton go head-to-head in a Premier League relegation six-pointer at the London Stadium this weekend.
West Ham suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, extending their winless Premier League run to seven matches (D1, L6) for the first time since 2017. Stuck in the relegation zone, one point adrift of safety, the ‘Hammers’ come into this encounter having lost their last three home league outings by an aggregate score of 6-1, including two in a row via an identical 2-0 scoreline. As such, manager David Moyes could be counting his final days in East London unless he inspires West Ham to back-to-back home league victories over Everton for the first time since 1986. Yet following a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture earlier this season, the ‘Irons’ could lose both seasonal top-flight meetings with the ‘Toffees’ for the first time since 2014/15.
Meanwhile, Everton found themselves on a receiving end of a 2-1 scoreline against Southampton last weekend despite holding a 1-0 halftime lead and will take the field amid a dreadful seven-game winless league streak (D2, L5). The ‘Toffees’ have found points hard to come by on the road this season, as barring a 2-1 win at Southampton in early October, they’ve gone winless on their eight remaining top-flight travels (D4, L4). However, Frank Lampard’s men have since failed to get on the scoresheet in four of their subsequent five away league games (D2, L3), casting doubt on their bid to return to winning ways in the Premier League for the first time since October. Moreover, the visitors have won none of their last nine league visits to London (D3, L6) since incidentally overcoming West Ham in May 2021.
