West Ham United vs Dinamo Zagreb
West Ham United will be looking to wrap up a scintillting UEFA Europa League campaign when they take on Dinamo Zagreb at the London Stadium.
West Ham’s chances of completing their eye-catching Europa League Group H campaign with a 100% record went out of the window on Matchday 4 as they played out a 2-2 draw at Genk. However, the ‘Hammers’ have bounced back with a comfortable 2-0 win at Rapid Vienna on Matchday 5 to secure a top-place finish in Group H with a game to spare. Warming up for this clash, David Moyes’ side came from behind to beat Chelsea 3-2 in an all-London Premier League showdown over the weekend, halting a run of consecutive domestic matches without a win (D1, L1). Another successful European midweek is well on the cards, especially given West Ham’s resounding 70% win ratio in European fixtures on home turf (GP27: W19, D3, L5).
Meanwhile, avoiding defeat in London would fire Dinamo Zagreb to the Europa League knock-outs as they take to the final group stage matchday two points clear of third-placed Genk. Worryingly, though, the ‘Blues’ have never won a European fixture on English soil so far (D1, L7). Indeed, eking out a point here could be a tall order, as they’ve suffered three defeats across their last four Europa League away matches (W1), trailing at half-time in each loss. Additionally, they’ve failed to grind out a result after conceding an away opener in Europe’s second-tier competition since October 2018. However, since losing 2-0 in the reverse H2H in their opening Group H fixture, the Croats have only lost one of their last four Europa League outings (W2, D1, L1) despite keeping one clean sheet in the process.
