Vietnam vs Indonesia

My Dinh National Stadium sets the stage for a high-stakes 2026 World Cup qualifying encounter between Vietnam and Indonesia.

Vietnam could not have hoped for a better start to their qualifying campaign, beating the Philippines 2-0 on the road in their opening Group F outing. However, their hopes of reaching their first-ever World Cup finals have since plummeted, with back-to-back 1-0 defeats to Iraq and Indonesia demoting them to third in the standings. But if they’re to avenge a narrow loss in the reverse fixture and overturn a one-point deficit on second-placed Indonesia, they’ll need to perform far better than Jakarta last week. Philippe Troussier’s side failed to attempt a shot on target and generated just two shots overall, resulting in their fourth scoring blank across their five most recent H2Hs (W1, D2, L2).

Meanwhile, Indonesia bolstered their bid to advance into their first World Cup finals since 1938 with the abovementioned triumph in the reverse fixture, putting a two-game winless start to their Group F campaign to bed (D1, L1). Scoring remains an issue for Shin Tae-yong’s side, considering they’ve bagged precisely one goal in all three qualifying matches. In fact, they’ve netted under 1.5 goals in all eight internationals since the calendar year flipped to 2024 (W2, L6). It’s not like they’ve excelled defensively, conceding 2+ goals in all six defeats in that sequence at an average of 3.5 per game. That paints a bleak picture for the Red and Whites, who haven’t won any of their last seven visits to Vietnam (D2, L5).
