Turkey vs Wales

Turkey and Wales are set to trade tackles at the Samsun 19 Mayis Stadyumu in a pivotal Euro 2024 qualifying Group D encounter.

Turkey claimed a dramatic 3-2 away to Latvia last time out despite conceding an injury-time equalizer to bounce back from a 2-0 home loss to Croatia and move to the top of Group D after the opening three matchdays (W2, L1). But Turkey’s hopes of securing a third consecutive appearance at the Euro finals are not a foregone conclusion yet, although an impressive run of four wins from their last five matches (L1) suggests they’re on the right path. Adding to this sentiment, the ‘Crescent Stars’ have only suffered two defeats in their previous 21 Euro qualifying matches (W14, D5). But to build on their purple patch, the Turks must defy a sluggish five-game H2H record against Wales, having won just once in this sequence (D1, L3).

What’s even more impressive from Wales’ perspective is that they kept four clean sheets during that five-game run, including a 2-1 victory at Euro 2020 in their most recent encounter. However, Rob Page’s men must grind out their way into a third consecutive European Championship following an underwhelming three-game start to their Group D journey (W1, D1, L1). A demoralizing 4-2 home loss to section minnows Armenia last weekend may have crippled the spirits in the visiting camp as they bid to overcome a disastrous five-match form on foreign soil (D2, L3). On a more positive note, the ‘Dragons’ found the net on their last eight international travels, which has been the case in their two most recent visits to Turkey (W1, L1).
