Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the venue as Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers go head-to-head in a high-stake Premier League fixture.

Antonio Conte had put together nine consecutive Premier League matches without losing (W6, D3) to get his managerial career at Tottenham off to a flying start. However, ‘Spurs’ have since lost back-to-back league games by an aggregate score of 5-2, including a heartbreaking 3-2 home defeat to Southampton in midweek. As a result, Conte now faces the prospect of losing three successive league fixtures as a manager for the first time since November 2009, during his time at Atalanta. Wolves’ visit to the nation’s capital is unlikely to do any favours to Tottenham’s hopes of getting back to winning ways, as they’ve lost twice in their last three top-flight H2Hs in London (W1), conceding precisely three goals in both reverses. But a 1-0 win at Molineux earlier this season gives them a chance to register their first league double over Wolves since 2003/04.

On the other hand, a narrow 1-0 home defeat at the hands of fellow top-four contenders Arsenal in midweek halted Wolverhampton’s run of three Premier League victories beforehand. Yet, Wolves have won each of their last three Premier League matches away from home and could make it four in a row for the first time since April 1980. Manager Bruno Lage has based his side’s success on hostile territory on a water-tight defence that has conceded a league-low eight goals on the road this season. But scoring has been a glaring issue for the Midlands outfit this term, as they’ve bagged a measly average of one goal per away league game, scoring 2+ goals in just three of their 11 Premier League road trips thus far.
