Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
The stakes are high for Premier League top-four hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur as they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham pulled off yet another comeback last weekend, overturning a 1-0 halftime deficit in a 2-1 triumph against Brighton to make it five consecutive home victories in the Premier League and hold onto the last top-four spot. Spurs have proved well-versed in bouncing back, picking up an eye-catching 19 points from losing positions this season. However, they were on the receiving end of a spectacular turnaround in the reverse fixture, conceding two stoppage-time goals in a 2-1 defeat at Molineux. Keen to avenge that heartache and, in turn, avoid losing three consecutive H2Hs for the first time in the club’s history, Tottenham must deal with off-field distractions after their manager Ange Postecoglou finished on the radar of Liverpool. They will draw confidence from beating Wolves ‘to nil’ in two of their last three encounters in North London (L1).
In the meantime, Wolverhampton failed to build on a scintillating 4-2 romping of Tottenham’s cross-city rivals Chelsea on their last Premier League travel, succumbing to a 2-0 home defeat to Brentford in the previous round. Therefore, leaving Molineux is a blessing in disguise, especially as Gary O’Neil’s men are unbeaten on their last five competitive travels (W3, D2), with both Premier League wins in this sequence coming in London. But without Hwang Hee-chan and Matheus Cunha, who between them netted eight of Wolves’ last 11 league goals on the road, the ‘Wanderers’ would be forgiven for doubting their chances of improving a decent-looking six-game away form against Tottenham (W3, D1, L2).
