Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United
A place in the League Cup semi-finals is up for grabs as Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United go head-to-head at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur emphatically halted a dreadful four-game winless streak in all competitions (D2, L2) with a thumping 5-0 win at Premier League basement boys Southampton over the weekend. Back to winning ways, Spurs head into proceedings amid a four-match unbeaten run against Man Utd (W2, D2), including a 3-0 league victory at Old Trafford earlier this season. They netted at least two goals in all four matches, highlighting the potential for another free-scoring performance. However, Ange Postecoglou’s men haven’t fared well in North London lately, going four consecutive home matches without winning (D2, l2) for the first time since 2008. The hosts can take heart from overcoming Manchester City in the previous League Cup round to maintain their dream of ending a 16-year title drought.
In the meantime, Man Utd staged a stunning late comeback to topple Man City 2-1 at the weekend, with Ruben Amorim becoming only the second manager to beat defending Premier League champions with two different teams in one season. More importantly, it was United’s second successive away win in all competitions following a dismal seven-game winless streak, handing them a chance to make it three in a row for the first time in 2024/25. Amorim has recent history backing his bid to turn Man Utd’s fortunes around, considering his predecessors, Jose Mourinho and Erik ten Hag, won the League Cup title in their first seasons at Old Trafford. Adding to his optimism, United had gone unbeaten in five consecutive away league H2Hs (W3, D2) before a 2-0 loss last term.
