Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the venue as a downtrodden Tottenham Hotspur side and high-flying Manchester United meet in a blockbuster midweek Premier League contest.

Tottenham’s decision to part with manager Antonio Conte has thrown the club into disarray, with interim boss Christian Stellini leaving North London following a humiliating 6-1 rout at Newcastle United last weekend. ‘Spurs’ brought Ryan Mason back as a temporary solution until the end of the season, tasking him with restoring confidence at a dysfunctional club following an underwhelming five-match league form (D2, L2), bookended by a pair of high-scoring defeats to Bournemouth and Newcastle. Man Utd’s visit is unlikely to inspire much confidence in the Tottenham camp, considering they’ve lost their last four Premier League H2Hs, including a 2-0 humbling in the reverse fixture, for the first time since a run of seven defeats between 2001 and 2004. What’s even more concerning for the hosts, they’ve picked up just three wins in their last 21 top-flight H2Hs on home turf (D7, L11).

On the other hand, Man Utd recovered from a heartbreaking Europa League quarter-final exit at the hands of Sevilla, overcoming Brighton & Hove Albion after a nail-biting penalty shootout at the weekend to set up a mouth-watering FA Cup final against Man City. Back to their Premier League commitments for the first time since a 2-0 triumph at Nottingham Forest, Erik ten Hag’s men are looking to land a fourth straight league victory ‘to nil’ for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge and perhaps put a top-four race beyond doubt. The ‘Red Devils’ have only lost one of their last 15 midweek fixtures in the Premier League (W9, D5) and are unbeaten in all seven such contests this season (W5, D2).
