Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool

One of the most exciting match-ups on the Premier League calendar pits Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool against each other at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham were able to stay within touching distance of the Premier League’s frontrunners before back-to-back losses to fellow top-four hopefuls Manchester United and Newcastle United slowed them down. Manager Antonio Conte steadied the ship at Bournemouth last weekend as his men fought back from a 2-0 deficit to eke out a dramatic 3-2 win, courtesy of a 92nd-minute winner. Another late comeback was on the menu in midweek Champions League action when ‘Spurs’ pulled off a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at Marseille to advance into the knockout stages. That should set their bid to end a nine-game winless Premier League streak against Liverpool nicely (D3, L6). However, a failed attempt to beat the ‘Reds’ would see them meet an unwanted piece of history.

Only once have Liverpool gone unbeaten in ten consecutive league matches against Tottenham, doing so between 1971 and 1976. You’d be forgiven for expecting a 2-0 home win over Napoli in midweek to inspire Liverpool’s comeback in the Premier League. But Jurgen Klopp’s men have been nothing if not miserable on the road this season, as they’ve won none of their opening five away league games (D2, L3), accounting for their worst away start since 2006/07. What’s more, they’ve lost consecutive Premier League matches outside Anfield ahead of this travel, last losing more in a row in 2012 (4)! On a more positive note, Liverpool have failed to score just once in their 20 previous Premier League meetings with Tottenham, while they’ve lost just one of their last 19 against ‘Spurs’ (W12, D6).
