Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium sets the stage for an exciting Premier League showdown between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.

Despite a dominant first-half performance against newly-promoted Leicester City on the opening weekend, Tottenham had to settle for a 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium, adding to the club fanbase’s frustration following last season’s fifth-place Premier League finish. Ange Postecoglou’s men are poised to bounce back from that disappointing result and will turn to their traditionally impressive record in home league openers, having won five of their last six such fixtures (L1). Ominously, the only blemish on that eye-catching run came at the hands of none other than Everton during Carlo Ancelotti’s time in the Toffees’ dugout. However, Spurs have since mustered a seven-match unbeaten H2H streak in the Premier League (W3, D4), including a 2-1 victory in this corresponding fixture in December 2023.

Everton’s long-standing struggles against Tottenham could deepen this weekend after Brighton & Hove Albion thrashed Sean Dyche’s 10-man side 3-0 on day one. That horrible result followed a common theme, which has seen Everton regularly crumble in August, with the Toffees now winless in nine consecutive league matches in the eighth month since 2021 (D3, L6). Another underwhelming outcome is in the waiting, not least because the Merseyside underachievers haven’t won any of their nine away games in the Premier League this calendar year (D4, L5). As if that’s not discouraging enough, Everton only scored once on their three visits to London during that stretch (D1, L2). Moreover, Spurs have scored more Premier League goals versus Everton (102) than against any other side, increasing the visitors’ apprehension ahead of this trip.
