Tottenham Hotspur vs Brentford
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the venue as Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford go head-to-head in an all-London Premier League match-up.
Tottenham maintained an unwanted trend of underperforming as pre-match outsiders with a gut-wrenching 1-0 home loss to fierce North London rivals Arsenal last weekend, making it six consecutive top-flight defeats as an underdog. Brentford’s upcoming visit cannot inspire much confidence either, with Ange Postecoglou’s side beating the Bees just twice across their six Premier League meetings in the past three seasons (D3, L1). However, it’s worth noting that both those triumphs came on this turf (L1) and saw the Lilywhites score multiple goals. That bodes well, as Tottenham have drawn a blank twice in their last three home league outings (W1, L2). Spurs can also draw heart from dismantling Everton 4-0 at home in round two, even though they’re facing their worst Premier League start since 2015/16.
Meanwhile, Ivan Toney’s big-money transfer to Saudi Arabia in the summer hasn’t clipped Brentford’s wings, yet they have stuttered on the road without their talisman. Despite winning both Premier League home matches in 2024/25, the Bees have lost twice on as many road trips thus far, conceding precisely two goals in each defeat. Thomas Frank’s side recovered from a 2-1 loss at Manchester City last weekend with a comfortable 3-1 victory against lower-league Leyton Orient in midweek League Cup action. But losing prolific forward Yaone Wissa to a long-term injury on the eve of this trip could harm Brentford’s hopes of replicating their 2022/23 season win away to Tottenham (3-1). As could their dismal run of three defeats from their last four league travels (W1).
