Torino vs Napoli

Third-placed Napoli head to the Stadio Olimpico di Torino to take on mid-table Torino in a tasty-looking Serie A showdown.

Torino came from behind to outscore Empoli 3-1 on the road last time out and extend their undefeated Serie A streak to six matches (W3, D3). But Ivan Juric’s men have to defy history if they are to maintain their rich vein of form, as they are winless in their last 13 Serie A meetings with Napoli (D4, L9), including a narrow 1-0 defeat in Naples earlier this season. Moreover, they’ve lost five of their six previous home league H2Hs (D1). The ‘Granata’ have been fun to watch of late, with their last three Serie A games seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring. Topically, three of Torino’s five previous home league outings have yielded the identical 2-1 scoreline (W1, D2, L2), highlighting the potential for another high-scoring contest.

On the other hand, Napoli dismantled Sassuolo 6-1 at home last weekend to arrest a run of three Serie A matches without a victory (D1, L2), though it’s too little too late for Luciano Spalletti’s side to reignite their Scudetto bid. Before falling to a shock 3-2 defeat at Empoli in their most recent away league match, ‘I Partenopei’ had gone unbeaten in nine previous Serie A road trips (W6, D3). That’s particularly encouraging as Napoli are without a clean sheet in their last 11 Serie A games, their worst such streak in the competition since 1997/98. But Napoli’s cagey openings have seen them concede a league-low ten first-half goals during this Serie A season. At the other end of the pitch, Spalletti’s men have netted a league-high 25 goals from set-piece situations this term.
