Torino vs Juventus

Stadio Olimpico di Torino forms the backdrop for the 208th Derby della Mole as Torino and Juventus meet in the latest chapter of their long-standing Serie A rivalry.

Torino’s bid to overhaul a six-point deficit on sixth-placed Atalanta took a tumble last weekend as they slumped to a 3-2 defeat at bottom-half Empoli, relinquishing a four-game unbeaten league run (W2, D2). There’s no room for error if they’re to secure European football next season, but a humiliating record of just one win across their last 37 meetings with Juventus paints a bleak picture (D8, L28). As if that’s not disturbing enough, Ivan Juric’s men have notoriously struggled against top-five opponents this season, suffering five defeats in six such contests (D1), including a 2-0 loss in the reverse fixture. On a more positive note, they’ve racked up five clean sheets in their last six home league outings (W3, D2, L1).

On the other hand, Juventus returned to winning ways in Serie A last weekend as a narrow 1-0 home triumph against Fiorentina saw them arrest a four-game winless streak (D2, L2). But Massimiliano Allegri remains under pressure despite bringing ‘I Bianconeri’ to the cusp of Champions League football. The Italian manager had overseen just one win in nine league matches before beating ‘La Viola’ last weekend (D4, L4), though that win came at home. On the road, however, Juventus have lost three of their four most recent Serie A games (D1). They’ve not won on the road since January, and two scoring blanks in four away league matches since can’t inspire much confidence.
