Suwon Bluewings vs Ulsan Hyundai

Suwon World Cup Stadium forms the backdrop for a lopsided K League 1 showdown between rock-bottom Suwon Bluewings and pacesetters Ulsan Hyundai.

Suwon Bluewings thought they could be posting their first top-flight victory since mid-May before a late penalty handed Pohang Steelers a 1-1 draw in midweek K League 1 action, extending Bluewings’ dreadful run to nine consecutive winless league games (D4, L5). That result left them languishing at the bottom, solidifying their reputation as ‘stalemate kings,’ with four of their last five league matches ending as a draw (L1). But the odds are understandably stacked against Suwon here, considering they remain the only K League 1 side yet to win a league fixture at home this season (D3, L8), not to mention they’ve conceded a second-highest 19 goals in the process.

On the other hand, Ulsan Hyundai struck home a stoppage-time equalizer but still ended up on the receiving end of a 2-1 scoreline against Incheon United in midweek K League 1 action, seeing their five-match winning league streak run out of the window. Playing on hostile turf for a change could be a welcoming distraction, given the visitors have emerged victorious on their last three top-flight travels, including a brace of 1-0 wins in the build-up to this trip. But the Suwon World Cup Stadium hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Ulsan by any stretch of the imagination, as they’ve drawn a blank in three of their last four league H2Hs against Suwon here (W1, D1, L2).
