Suwon Bluewings vs Incheon United

Suwon World Cup Stadium is the venue as K League 1 basement boys Suwon Bluewings encounter fellow bottom-half rivals Incheon United.

Since a 2-0 win at Gangwon in mid-May, Suwon Bluewings have lost four consecutive matches in the K League 1 despite scoring on each occasion as they start this round nailed to the bottom of the standings. As the only side in the South Korean top flight yet to hit a 10-point landmark (8), the hosts are desperate to return to winning ways against an Incheon side they defeated 1-0 in the reverse fixture in April. However, that’s easier said than done. Except for a 1-1 draw against Gangwon on matchday five, they’ve lost all seven remaining home league outings this season by an aggregate score of 6-16, including the last five in a row. But since four of those five losses yielded a narrow one-goal margin, it’s hard to say they lack fighting spirit.

On the other hand, Incheon United suffered back-to-back league defeats ‘to nil’ at the start of May but have since gone unbeaten in the last five on the trot (W1, D4), three of which contained under 2.5 goals. Their only victory in that sequence came on their most recent travel as they thumped Daejeon 3-1 to arrest a two-game winless league run on the road (D1, L1). If they claim three points here, it’s likely to be in emphatic fashion, considering each of Incheon’s three away league wins this season has featured a two-goal margin. Much more proactive after the break, Jo Sung-hwan’s men have registered a clear majority (70%) of their away league goals this term in the second half of play (7/10).
