Strasbourg vs Paris Saint-Germain
Stade de la Meinau is the venue as Strasbourg and Paris Saint-Germain go head-to-head in an exciting Ligue 1 showdown.
Strasbourg’s quest to secure European qualification under new manager Patrick Vieira suffered a setback last weekend as they drew 1-1 with relegation-battling Clermont. That result at least stretched their unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to six matches (W3, D3) and maintained their six-point deficit on sixth-placed Reims ahead of this round. Stade de la Meinau is a perfect setting for ‘Le Racing’ to return to winning ways, as they’ve only lost twice in nine home league games this season (W4, D3). However, PSG’s visit hardly bodes well, considering they’ve failed to win any of their last 13 encounters against the reigning French champions (D4, L9) while conceding 3+ goals on seven occasions. That’s an ominous sign, given Strasbourg’s poor return of only three clean sheets in Ligue 1 this term.
On the other hand, Paris Saint-Germain unfathomably spurned a two-goal cushion in a goal-glutted 2-2 home draw against Brest last weekend, relinquishing a five-game winning streak across all competitions and allowing second-placed Nice to reduce the gap to six points. Seeking amends for a second stalemate in their last four Ligue 1 outings (W2), Luis Enrique’s men head to Strasbourg, where they’ve drawn their two most recent top-flight assignments. But PSG’s away form in 2024 inspires confidence, with ‘Les Parisiens’ winning all three competitive games on the road by a combined score of 15-1, including a 2-0 triumph against Lens on their only league travel this year. Adding to Enrique’s enthusiasm, his prolific frontline has got on the scoresheet in their last 20 competitive matches.
