Strasbourg vs Marseille

Stade de la Meinau is the venue as Strasbourg and Olympique Marseille go head-to-head in a tasty-looking Ligue 1 fixture.

An action-packed 2-2 home draw with mid-table Toulouse prevented Strasbourg from pulling clear of the relegation zone, with the hosts joining this round level on points with 17th-placed Brest. ‘Le RCS’ have picked up fewer league victories than any other Ligue 1 side this season (1), courtesy of a 3-2 beating of Angers on hostile turf a fortnight ago. However, playing at home has been Strasbourg’s Achilles’ heel this term, as evidenced by their sub-par six-game winless top-flight start at the Stade de la Meinau (D3, L3). Marseille’s visit could not have been timed any worse, considering Julien Stephen’s men have lost both previous home league H2Hs without scoring.

In the meantime, fatigue could be catching up with Marseille following an exhausting 2-1 Champions League defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek, which inflicted a massive blow on their hopes of reaching the knockout stages. Marseille’s noticeable downfall has seen them lose four times in their last five competitive matches (W1) following back-to-back wins on either side of September’s international break. Worryingly for head coach Igor Tudor, his men have lost each of their last three Ligue 1 outings and could make it four in a row for the first time since 2015. It’s no wonder they fell three points off the top-three race, yet an impressive away league form in 2022 might come in handy (W10, D2, L4).
