Spain vs Georgia

Estadio José Zorrilla plays host to Spain’s final Euro 2024 qualifying clash as Georgia arrive at the Iberian Peninsula.

Spain cemented their place at Group A’s summit with a routine 3-1 away victory over continental minnows Cyprus at the start of November’s international break. But only two points clear of runners-up Scotland, Luis de la Fuente’s men probably need another win here to advance into next summer’s tournament as group winners, having secured qualification with two games to spare after a near-perfect cycle (W6, L1). ‘La Roja’ fans should make a party atmosphere in Valladolid, knowing their side has won each of their last 25 Euro qualifiers on home turf, including seven without conceding on the trot in the build-up to this contest. On top of that, Spain humiliated Georgia 7-1 in the reverse fixture.

That result forms part of Georgia’s disappointing all-time H2H record against Spain (W1, L5), but they seem powerless to turn the tables. If it’s any consolation, Willy Sagnol’s men have gone from three consecutive defeats to three internationals without losing in a row (W2, D1), including an action-packed 2-2 draw against Scotland in their penultimate Euro 2024 qualifier. Except for a 4-0 demolition of Cypurs in October, the visitors have conceded multiple goals in four of their last five Group A outings, which hardly bodes well for their bid to arrest a three-game losing streak against Spain. It’s worth mentioning they capitulated at least twice on each occasion.
