Songkhla vs Pathum United
Tinsulanon Stadium plays host to an exciting meeting between Songkhla and Pathum United in the first round of the Thai League Cup.
Songkhla made light work of Khonkaen Mordindang in the previous Thai FA Cup round back in November, cruising to an overwhelming 5-1 win. That triumph brought their disastrous five-game winless run in all competitions to a halt (D2, L3 – 90mins only), with each match in that sequence yielding a full-time margin of under 1.5 goals. At home, the ‘Samila Mermaids’ have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last six competitive fixtures (W1, D2, L3 – 90mins), conceding 2+ goals on three occasions. Adding to a long list of problems, Songkhla have lost two of their three home H2Hs (W1), with both those defeats coming by 2+ goals ‘to one.’
In the meantime, Pathum United dropped a 1-0 half-time lead to draw 1-1 at Ratchaburi in their opening game of the new calendar year, maintaining an underwhelming form from the final stretch of 2021. They have now won just one of their last five competitive fixtures (D2, L2), scoring under 1.5 goals in each game they didn’t win that spread of matches. Indeed, entertainment has been relatively sparse in Pathum’s recent away outings as each of the last four has featured under 2.5 overall goals, only one of which witnessed both teams on the scoresheet. By extension, a lack of firepower up top has seen the ‘Rabbits’ score one goal or less in five of their last six competitive travels.
