Sevilla vs Valencia

Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán is the venue as Sevilla and Valencia go head-to-head in a high-profile La Liga showdown.

After registering a brace of La Liga victories ‘to nil,’ Sevilla have lost some steam, drawing their subsequent three competitive matches, including a scoreless away stalemate with Real Sociedad at the weekend. A four-match unbeaten start to this La Liga campaign fills the hosts with a fair degree of confidence they can secure a top-four finish for the third season running for the first time in over 60 years. But a pair of low-scoring draws means ‘Los Nervionenses’ could make it three in a row for only the fourth time in the 21st century. Sevilla should remain confident of avoiding that scenario after winning the last three top-flight H2Hs at home without conceding a goal. Additionally, bringing the 2020/21 campaign into the equation, Julen Lopetegui’s men have lost just one of their previous eight home La Liga outings (W7, L1).

On the other hand, Valencia blew a slender 1-0 lead against Real Madrid at home last time out, conceding twice in quick succession to succumb to their first league defeat of the season (W3, D1). Desperate to bounce back, ‘Los Murciélagos’ will be looking to defy their underwhelming recent record against Andalusian sides away from home, having gone winless in their last eight La Liga trips to Andalusian clubs (D3, L5). Valencia’s 4-1 thrashing of Osasuna in their most recent La Liga game on the road halted their dismal 12-match winless streak in away top-flight fixtures away from home (D4, L7). Jose Bordalas’ team could now win back-to-back away league contests for the first time since May 2019. That could be tough to achieve, though, given that they’ve defeat Sevilla only twice in their last 17 top-flight H2Hs on the road (D4, L11).
