Scotland vs Poland

Scotland and Poland are set to square off at Hampden Park at the start of their UEFA Nations League Group A/1 cycle.

Scotland’s second successive appearance at the European Championships didn’t go to plan as they claimed just one point in three group-stage fixtures (D1, L2), holding Switzerland to a 1-1 draw. It wasn’t an ideal warm-up for their maiden foray into League A on the back of a four-match unbeaten run in last year’s competition (W3, D1). That streak forms part of Scotland’s impressive Nations League record, which has seen them lose just four out of 16 outings (W10, D2). However, manager Steve Clarke cannot rest easy, with the Tartan Army seeking their first victory in five home internationals (D2, L2). That’s easier said than done, considering that the last three encounters between Scotland and Poland have ended level, with each featuring precisely two second-half goals.

As for Poland, a disappointing return of one point from three Euro 2024 group-stage outings condemned them to another early elimination at a major international tournament, heightening the pressure on new manager Michal Probierz. After holding continental giants France to a 1-1 draw in their last Euro game, the Poles are seeking a more reassuring start to their fourth consecutive League A campaign. Poland capped off their successful qualification campaign for Euro 2024 with two successive away wins, laying the foundation for a potentially high-flying Nations League start. But it’s worth mentioning that they’ve never won their first away game in a Nations League campaign (D1, L2). That could change in Glasgow, as they’re unbeaten in five away H2Hs (W2, D3).
