RB Leipzig vs Wolfsburg

RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg are set to trade tackles at the Red Bull Arena in a handsomely-looking Bundesliga showdown.

Head coach Domenico Tedesco has failed to rally his troops following a 5-3 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup, with RB Leipzig going winless in their opening three Bundesliga matches this season (D2, L1). Stretching back to the 2021/22 campaign, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ are winless in four top-flight matches, their worst such streak in the competition’s history. By extension, Tedesco’s men have only won one of their seven previous league outings (D3, L3) as the pressure mounts on the former Schalke 04 boss. However, Leipzig will feel confident about getting back to winning ways, considering they’ve lost none of their last seven competitive home meetings with Wolfsburg (W5, D2), including a 2-0 victory in this corresponding fixture in 2021/22.

In the meantime, Wolfsburg’s effort to better last season’s dismal 12th-place Bundesliga finish has got off to a sluggish start. Led by new manager Niko Kovac, ‘Die Wolfe’ have gone winless in their opening three league matches (D2, L1), failing to get on the scoresheet in the last two. That may not necessarily be a bad omen, considering the last time Wolfsburg returned just two points from their opening three Bundesliga fixtures, they ended up finishing as runners-up, back in 2014/15. Kovac’s prime task at this point is to stop Wolfsburg’s first-half leaks, with all of their four Bundesliga goals conceded this term coming before halftime. A clean-sheet theme looks almost impossible, though, with the visitors failing to shut Leipzig out in their last seven competitive H2Hs on the road.
