PSV vs Marseille

Parc des Princes is the venue as Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Marseille battle it out for supremacy in Ligue 1.

The 86th top-flight edition of ‘Le Classique’ comes at the wrong time for PSG. Fatigue looks to be catching up with Christophe Galtier’s men, who have drawn their last three competitive matches, netting under 1.5 goals on each occasion. Despite boasting one of the most intimidating frontlines in European football, scoring has been the elephant in the room for ‘Les Parisiens’ lately as they’ve bagged one goal or fewer in five of their last seven outings across all competitions. However, stretching back to 2021/22, the joint-most successful French side are unbeaten in 19 consecutive Ligue 1 games on home turf (W14, D5). On top of that, they have only lost one of their last 25 competitive clashes against Marseille (W20, D4), courtesy of a 1-0 home defeat in Ligue 1 two years ago.

In the meantime, visiting Marseille eased past a 9-man Sporting Lisbon side in midweek Champions League action (2-0) to take control of the runner-up spot in Group D. That was a perfect response to an underwhelming 2-1 home defeat to newly-promoted Ajaccio in the previous Ligue 1 round. After their 100% unbeaten league start (W7, D2) came to a halt last weekend, ‘Les Olympiens’ will at least find some inspiration knowing they’ve not lost back-to-back Ligue 1 fixtures since October 2021. Moreover, Igor Tudor’s men have recorded an almost perfect four-game Ligue 1 start on the road (W3, D1), conceding a league-low one goal across their opening four domestic travels. Worryingly, though, they’ve picked up just one win in 11 league visits to PSG during the Qatari era (D1, L9).
