PSG vs Nantes

Paris Saint-Germain’s quest to defend the Ligue 1 title continues at the Parc des Princes against familiar foes Nantes.

Despite Gianluigi Donnarumma’s early expulsion, Paris Saint-Germain scored on either side of halftime to beat newly-promoted Le Havre 2-0 last weekend and seal a seventh consecutive league victory, tightening their stranglehold on a record-extending 12th Ligue 1 title. Full of confidence after moving four points clear of closest followers Nice at the table’s summit, ‘Les Parisiens’ go after a third successive top-flight win against Nantes, having won both last season’s league meetings via multi-goal margins. Another emphatic triumph could be well on the cards, with Luis Enrique’s side winning four straight home matches in Ligue 1 by at least a two-goal margin since a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Nice in mid-September. Considering they’ve netted 3+ goals on all four occasions, it’s fair to assume a high-scoring contest is in store.

As far as Nantes are concerned, keeping the game as uneventful as possible would be a dream scenario, even though a 1-0 win against Nice last weekend saw them become the first Ligue 1 side to inflict defeat on ‘Les Aiglons’ this season. Low scoring has, in fact, been a common theme in Nantes’ recent league outings, with three of their last four featuring under 1.5 goals (W1, D1, L2), sparking optimism within the traveling support that ‘La Maison Jaune’ could avoid another catastrophe in Paris. But before jumping the gun, Nantes fans must not forget that Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men have lost three of their last four away league matches (W1), conceding 3+ goals in each defeat.
