PSG vs Lille

Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to bounce back from a rough patch when they welcome familiar Ligue 1 foes Lille to the Parc des Princes this weekend.

Out-of-sorts PSG followed up a humiliating 3-1 league defeat at Monaco with an equally disappointing 1-0 home loss to Bayern Munich in midweek Champions League action, throwing manager Christophe Galtier’s future into doubt. After losing three consecutive games in all competitions, ‘Les Parisiens’ are staring down the barrel of four defeats in a row during a single campaign for the first time since 2000. But though their last top-flight home loss came to Lille in April 2021, the joint-record Ligue 1 champions have since gone unbeaten in 33 league outings at the Parc des Princes (W28, D5). If that’s not enough to settle the nerves in Paris, PSG ran out 7-1 winners in the reverse fixture earlier this season after breaking the deadlock only ten seconds into the game.

In the meantime, visiting Lille have enjoyed an uplift in form in the build-up to this trip, going from consecutive scoreless outings in Ligue 1 (D1, L1) to back-to-back league triumphs by a two-goal margin. Having lost just one of their last eight top-flight matches (W4, D3), ‘Les Dogues’ find themselves on the fringes of the top three, trailing the final Champions League spot by six points at the start of this round. But they’ve struggled with inconsistent performances on the road this season (W5, D2, L4) and have managed just one win on their last three league travels (D1, L1). That hardly bodes well for Lille’s effort to avenge back-to-back H2H league defeats by an aggregate score of 12-2.
