PSG vs Lens

Parc des Princes forms the backdrop for a Ligue 1 top-table ‘six-pointer’ between table-topping PSG and runners-up Lens.

PSG, who are currently at the top of Ligue 1 with a six-point lead, appear to be on track to break the all-time record by securing their 11th French top-flight title. ‘Les Parisiens’ are in a prime position to increase this gap even further as they host second-placed Lens. However, PSG’s recent record against Lens in Ligue 1 is not reassuring, having failed to secure a win in their previous three head-to-head encounters (D2, L1). PSG’s quest for the title has been hindered by their failure to score a goal in their last two home league games, which could further worsen their record as they lost 3-1 in the reverse H2H. Previously, PSG had an unbeaten home league run of 35 matches (W30, D5), which they would like to get back to immediately.

Meanwhile, visiting Lens will be hoping to exploit any nervousness in the home camp, as they aim to secure a victory that would reduce PSG’s lead to only three points, which would bring them closer to their first top-flight title since 1997/98. In contrast to PSG, the visitors are in excellent form, having secured four consecutive league victories in the build-up to this trip. They are on the verge of matching their best consecutive winning streak of the season, dating back to October-November. Lens’ success has been primarily due to their ability to remain solid in the first half of the game and then chase after the break. Only two teams in Ligue 1 have been trailing at half-time in fewer matches this season than Lens. Franck Heise’s men have showcased an impressive defensive resilience, conceding a league-low nine first-half goals this term.
