Paris Saint-Germain vs Toulouse

Paris Saint-Germain’s final home game of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season brings Toulouse to the Parc des Princes.

Back to Ligue 1 action after another Champions League heartbreak, PSG return to the Parc des Princes to celebrate a record-extending 12th title in the French top flight. However, Kylian Mbappe’s public admission will somewhat mute the joy at the stands, with the quicksilver forward admitting he’ll leave PSG following a 2-0 aggregate loss to Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League semi-final tie. Mbappe’s farewell match at the Parc des Princes could produce some magical moments for the home fans, with Les Parisiens racking up 11 wins in their last 12 meetings with Toulouse in Paris. Simply avoiding defeat would see PSG equal their second-longest unbeaten top-flight run (27 games) in history. Given they’ve only lost one league game this season (W9, D6), that’s a distinct possibility.

Meanwhile, Toulouse’s promising five-game unbeaten Ligue 1 streak (W3, D2) ended abruptly last weekend as they slumped to a 2-1 home defeat to Montpellier after conceding a match-deciding goal beyond the 80th minute. A lack of consistency has plagued Toulouse’s hopes of securing a top-half finish, with their last seven league outings alternating between different outcomes (W3, D2, L2). However, they’ve been superb on the road since a 1-0 loss at Le Havre in early March, winning three consecutive away league matches, and could make it four in a row in a single Ligue 1 campaign for the first time in history. Taking the lead wouldn’t necessarily guarantee success, considering they lament the division’s joint-worst points conversion record when opening the scoring this term (1.64 – W5, D3, L3).
