New England Revolution vs Chicago Fire

New England Revolution and Chicago Fire are set to trade tackles at the Gillette Stadium in a potentially high-scoring Major League Soccer showdown.

It’s been a disastrous start to the new MLS season for the New England Revolution, as they commence the fifth round nailed to the bottom of the Eastern Conference after losing all four league games by a combined score of 10-3. As the only pointless franchise in the East, the Revs seek amends for a 2-1 loss to FC Cincinnati in their last home outing. But the picture looks bleak, considering they’ve drawn five consecutive meetings with Chicago since a goal-glutted 3-2 away win in September 2021. Connoisseurs of action-packed football will hope both teams can score 2+ goals apiece for a sixth time in eight H2H matches, with their last two MLS encounters finishing 2-2 and 3-3, respectively.

As for Chicago, fighting back from an early 2-0 deficit to beat Montreal 4-3 at home last time out saw them put an underwhelming three-game winless league start to bed (D1, L3). However, manager Frank Klopas must plug massive holes at the back to increase Chicago’s chances of reaching the playoffs for the first time in six years. The visitors’ defensive frailties have seen them concede 2+ goals in all four MLS games this season, including a 2-1 defeat at Columbus Crew on their last league travel. Indeed, Chicago’s travel sickness is long-standing. Stretching back to the previous campaign, they’ve only won one of their last nine MLS away fixtures (D2, L6), capitulating multiple times on six occasions!
