New England Revolution vs Atlanta United

Injury-hit New England Revolution will be looking to return to winning ways when they encounter Atlanta United in an exciting Major League Soccer showdown at Gillette Stadium.

Despite going from three consecutive MLS wins ‘to one’ to back-to-back winless outings (D1, L1), New England’s chances of securing a place in the round of 16 are still looking sound. Seven points clear of 8th-placed DC United with two games in hand, the ‘Revs’ return to home soil seeking their first league clean sheet in six games. Atlanta’s visit hardly bodes well for that, as their last three MLS meetings have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring (W1, D2), with Bruce Arena’s side conceding 2+ goals on two occasions. However, as one of the best-performing home teams in the Eastern Conference, they come into proceedings unbeaten in all ten MLS fixtures at Gillette Stadium this season (W7, D3), averaging 2.3 goals per game.

On the other hand, Atlanta United’s traveling record looks anything but inspiring, as they’ve only managed two wins on their 11 league trips this term (W2, D5, L4). A narrow 1-0 victory at Montreal last weekend helped the ‘Five Stripes’ put an underwhelming nine-game winless away league run to bed, marking their second clean sheet in three road fixtures after they failed to register a shutout on their opening eight MLS travels. But scoring has been an issue for Atlanta lately, as they’ve drawn a blank in two of their last four away league outings, netting precisely once in the other two. Despite their recent struggles in front of goal, Gonzalo Pineda’s men have avoided defeat in 55% of their league matches after conceding first this season (W2, D4, L5).
