Napoli vs Torino

Saturday’s Serie A action gets underway at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona as Napoli and Torino face each other in a competitive-looking contest.

Napoli enjoyed themselves atop the Serie A standings during the international break following a morale-bolstering 2-1 win at AC Milan last time out. The dream of securing their first Scudetto since the glory days of Diego Maradona are alive and kicking as ‘I Partenopei’ take the field unbeaten after the opening seven Serie A matchdays (W5, D2). Napoli’s stellar domestic form dates back to the final stretch of last season, with Luciano Spalletti’s side going unbeaten in 11 consecutive league matches (W9, D2), the longest ongoing streak among the current Serie A teams. There’s a feeling that Napoli’s phenomenal domestic run may go on beyond this round, considering they’ve lost just once in their last 20 top-flight H2Hs against Torino (W14, D5).

Unlike their hosts, the visitors have been synonymous with the term ‘inconsistency’ during the early stage of the season, registering three wins, a draw, and three defeats from their opening seven Serie A fixtures. But it’s worth noting that all of Torino’s three top-flight triumphs this season have come at the expense of newly-promoted sides! Since beating Lecce 1-0 at home, Ivan Juric’s men have suffered back-to-back 1-0 defeats to Inter Milan and Sassuolo and may lose three successive Serie A games for the first time since December 2020. Moreover, another failed attempt to get on the scoreboard would see Torino go three straight top-flight matches without scoring for the first time since November 2014.
