Monaco vs Paris Saint-Germain

Stade Louis II sets the stage for a mouth-watering Ligue 1 encounter between top-three hopefuls Monaco and runaway leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

Monaco emerged victorious from last weekend’s trip to Lens, pulling off a last-gasp 3-2 victory to get on the brink of winning back-to-back league matches for the first time in 2024. Stranded 13 points below table-topping PSG, Adi Hutter’s men can’t realistically hope to end a six-year title drought in Ligue 1. However, qualification for the Champions League group stages is plausible as they hold a narrow one-point lead on fourth-placed Nice. As bizarre as it sounds, PSG’s visit bodes well for Monaco’s effort to build momentum, with ‘Les Monégasques’ winning their last three home league H2Hs while netting precisely three goals in each. Against this backdrop, the hosts head into proceedings winless in three consecutive top-flight outings in the principality (D1, L2), all of which saw both teams on the scoresheet.

On the other hand, Kylian Mbappe’s last-minute penalty salvaged a 1-1 draw for PSG against Rennes last weekend, maintaining the perennial champions’ intimidating unbeaten run across all competitions to 19 matches (W14, D5). Buoyed by a five-match winning streak in away league action, ‘Les Parisiens’ ought to take the field in a confident mood, looking to complete their first league double against Monaco since 2018/29 following a 5-2 rout in the reverse fixture at the Parc des Princes. But Paris can’t afford to take anything for granted, knowing they’ve suffered more Ligue 1 defeats at the hands of Monaco (45) than against any other side, including a club-high 27 losses outside the capital. On a more positive note, Luis Enrique’s lads are unbeaten in their last 18 away league games (W14, D4).
