Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur go head-to-head in a mammoth Premier League top-five six-pointer at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have had a week to rally their troops following an embarrassing 4-1 thumping at the hands of Manchester City last time out as their hopes of reaching a coveted top-four finish hang in the balance. Before being dismantled at the Etihad, Ralf Rangnick’s men were unbeaten in eight consecutive Premier League games (W4, D4). Yet, United’s topsy-turvy home form has seen them alternate between victories (2) and draws (2) across their last four league matches at Old Trafford. The only positive in that run is that they kept three clean sheets, though scoring remains a problem for the ‘Red Devils.’ Since Rangnick’s arrival at the helm in December, Man United have netted under 1.5 goals in five of their seven Premier League fixtures at Old Trafford.

That must be music to Tottenham’s ears, even though they head into proceedings on the back of consecutive Premier League wins by 4+ goals ‘to nil.’ Before cruising to a landslide 4-0 victory away to Leeds United in their most recent top-flight travel, Antonio Conte’s side had failed to keep a clean sheet in four successive Premier League road trips, conceding 2+ goals on three occasions. Yet, Tottenham’s historic 6-1 triumph in this exact fixture in 2020/21 means they’ve won twice in their last three Premier League matches away to Man United (L1), as many as they had in their previous 26 visits to Old Trafford in the competition (D3, L21). However, ‘Spurs’ face the prospect of losing three Premier League meetings with United in a row for the first time since a run of four defeats between 2009 and 2010.
