Manchester City vs Manchester United

Wembley Stadium is the venue as Manchester City and Manchester United go head-to-head in a mouth-watering FA Cup final.

After pipping Arsenal to a third consecutive Premier League title and setting up blockbuster Champions League and FA Cup finals against Inter Milan and Man Utd, respectively, Manchester City are two wins away from becoming only the second English side to claim a coveted treble. Pep Guardiola’s men have reached the showpiece event without conceding a single goal and could become only the third side in the Football League era to lift the trophy unscratched, with the last time it happened dating back to 1903. Despite their unparalleled Premier League supremacy under Guardiola, the ‘Citizens’ have lost five of their last six FA Cup meetings with Man Utd (W1), casting doubt on their bid to become only the third club to win the league and FA Cup double on multiple occasions.

On the other hand, Manchester United ended a six-year title drought earlier this season by defeating Newcastle United 2-1 in the League Cup final in February and could conquer both major cup competitions in a single season for the first time in the club’s history. As the second-most successful team in FA Cup behind Arsenal (14 titles), Man Utd (12 titles) cannot anything for granted, considering they lament a competition joint-high eight defeats in a title-deciding fixture. But manager Erik ten Hag has history firmly on his side here, with the three previous Dutch coaches to contest the FA Cup final recording a resounding success (W3, L1). On top of that, the ‘Red Devils’ have won four consecutive Premier League outings in the run-up to this clash, averaging 2.25 goals per game.
