Malaysia U23 vs Cambodia U23
Thien Truong Stadium is the venue as Malaysia U23 and Cambodia U23 go head-to-head in an exciting Southeast Asia Games showdown.
Malaysia came from behind to pull off a 2-2 draw with Singapore in a topsy-turvy encounter on Matchday 3 and maintain their unbeaten start in Group B. The Malasyians were relentless in the opening two rounds, beating Thailand and Laos by 2+ goals ‘to one’ in matches featuring goals on either side of half-time and precisely two beyond the interval. Late action has been a common theme in Malaysia’s Group B fixtures thus far, as all three have produced goals beyond the 80th minute. But after keeping a clean sheet in all three internationals in 2021, the ‘Young Tigers’ are still waiting for their first shutout in 2022, highlighting the potential for another leaky contest.
On the other hand, Cambodia enjoyed a stellar start to their Group B campaign, racking up an overwhelming 4-1 win over Laos in which they scored two goals apiece on either side of half-time, including a fourth-mintue opener. However, things have gone south for the ‘Angkor Warriors’ since Matchday 1 as they have lost back-to-back Group B fixtures to Singapore and Thailand by an aggregate score of 6-0. Particularly vulnerable in the closing stages of the first half, Keisuke Honda’s men let in three of their six goals conceded across their last two Group B outings between the 30th and 45th minute. In fact, since the start of 2021, Cambodia have only kept one clean sheet in international action.
