Liverpool vs Crystal Palace
National Stadium in Singapore is the venue as Liverpool and Crystal Palace go head-to-head in an all-Premier League pre-season friendly.
Jurgen Klopp’s decision to field an understrength squad against Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United backfired on him as his Liverpool side suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat in their opening summer friendly. It poured more misery on the ‘Reds’ following last season’s Champions League heartbreak to Real Madrid. While waiting for marquee summer signing Darwin Nunez to get off the mark in the coveted red jersey, Liverpool will turn to their almost perfect record against domestic opponents in 2022 (W21, D6, L1 – 90mins only). Additionally, the Merseyside heavyweights have won their last 11 meetings with Palace, including friendlies, netting a staggering 32 goals in the process.
In the meantime, Crystal Palace bounced back from a disheartening 1-1 draw with lower-league English outfit Accrington in their inaugural pre-season fixture by beating Millwall 5-4 last time out. However, Palace’s indifferent record across their three most recent matches against fellow Premier League rivals spells trouble (W1, D1, L1), as does the fact they only scored more than once in one of them. Playing outside Selhurst Park has proved troublesome for Patrick Vieira’s men of late, as they’ve picked up just one victory in their last six games away from home (D1, L4). More importantly, they failed to keep a single clean sheet in that sequence.
