Leicester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

A battle for Premier League survival is heating up as Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers lock horns in a potentially season-defining fixture for the home side.

Brendan Rodgers’ sacking has done no good to Leicester City’s scary-looking battle for Premier League survival, with a pair of defeats in the wake of the manager’s dismissal leaving the ‘Foxes’ embroiled in a relegation scrap. Nailed two points adrift of safety inside the drop zone, the 2015/16 Premier League champions lost nine of their last ten matches in all competitions, including a 3-1 defeat at Manchester City on Dean Smith’s touchline debut last weekend. Wolves’ upcoming visit to the King Power could be just what the doctor ordered for Leicester, given that they’ve suffered just one defeat in their 25 previous home league H2Hs (W15, D9). That bodes well as they seek their first league double over Wolves since 1995/96 following a thumping 4-0 victory in the reverse fixture at Molineux.

In the meantime, Wolverhampton Wanderers seem to have turned the corner at the best possible moment, going from three straight Premier League games without winning (D1, L2) to back-to-back triumphs ‘to nil,’ steering seven points away from the red zone. However, since a 2-1 win at basement boys Southampton in February, Julen Lopetegui’s men have gone winless on their last four Premier League travels (D2, L2), averaging a measly 0.75 goals per match. Scoring remains a glaring issue for Wolves, as only two sides have netted fewer top-flight goals this season than them (26). That’s unlikely to aid their cause as they search for an elusive first Premier League goal at Leicester after five failed attempts (D2, L3).
