Leicester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

King Power Stadium hosts a Premier League match for the first time in over a year as Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur go head-to-head in their curtain-raising 2024/25 fixture.

Leicester City lived up to their tag as league favorites last term, winning the Championship title to secure a swift return to the Premier League under new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca. The Italian’s successor, Steve Cooper, became the club’s third permanent manager in as many seasons, coming over from fierce rivals Nottingham Forest, where he was dismissed midway through last season. Cooper’s two previous job assignments were off to an unbeaten start (W1, D1), which bodes well for Leicester’s bid to build on a scintillating 4-1 win against Tottenham in their most recent H2H on this ground in February 2023. Yet, Cooper doesn’t have fond memories of his previous EPL clashes against Spurs, losing three out of four via a two-goal margin (W1).

Meanwhile, Tottenham failed to capitalize on a superb ten-match unbeaten start to the 2023/24 Premier League season (W8, D2), finishing fifth in the standings. As a result, they’re out of the Champions League for a second straight year, albeit they come into the new campaign with lofty ambitions after securing the services of prolific marksman Dominic Solanke in an eye-watering £65m deal. Manager Ange Postecoglou has a lot on his plate, with Spurs distracted by off-field issues, seeing the club suspending Yves Bissouma for inappropriate behavior. Tottenham finished last season on a sorrowful note, suffering four defeats on their final six Premier League travels (W1, D1). Since their six-game away league record against Leicester is perfectly balanced (W3, L3), this meeting could go either way.
