Leeds United vs Liverpool 12 09 21

Elland Road comes under the spotlight as Leeds United and Liverpool go head-to-head in a potentially entertaining Premier League showdown.

The international break bells rang rescue for Marcelo Bielsa, who saw his Leeds side concede the opener and go winless in their first three Premier League matches this season (D2, L1). The Argentine’s hopes of avoiding rewriting history that last witnessed Leeds fail to win their opening four top-flight games in 1958/59 looks slim, though. The ‘Whites’ have managed just one victory in their last nine home league meetings with Liverpool (D3, L5), courtesy of a 4-3 win in November 2000. On the bright side, though, the hosts are undefeated in their previous seven home Premier League outings (W3, D4), their longest unbeaten home streak in the top-flight since 2001. Additionally, they have netted 2+ goals in their last three home Premier League fixtures on the trot, getting on the scoresheet before half-time on each occasion.

Meanwhile, Liverpool failed to take advantage of being a man up against Chelsea last time out, playing out a 1-1 draw at Anfield to snap a two-game winning start to their 2021/22 Premier League campaign. As a result, the ‘Reds’ take the field unbeaten in their last 13 top-flight matches (W10, D3), a run that saw them keep a clean sheet seven times. What’s more, Jurgen Klopp’s men have won all but one of their previous eight away Premier League games (D1), netting 2.37 goals per match in that sequence. Their free-scoring form is likely to continue at Elland Road this weekend. Indeed, Liverpool have failed to trouble the scoreboard in just one of their last 22 encounters against Leeds in all competitions, scoring at least once in the past 15 in a row.
