Leeds United vs Leicester City

Elland Road forms the backdrop for a high-stakes Premier League relegation six-pointer between Leeds United and Leicester City.

Leeds United’s faltering bid to secure Premier League survival took another hit last weekend as Fulham’s 2-1 home triumph condemned the ‘Whites’ to a third straight league defeat, leaving them only one point clear of the drop zone. After helping Leeds to a three-match unbeaten home run in the Premier League to start his managerial tenure, boss Javi Garcia has suffered back-to-back thumping defeats to Crystal Palace and Liverpool by an aggregate score of 11-2, with his side conceding 5+ goals on each occasion. Leicester’s visit to Elland Road won’t dole out any favors to Leeds’ survival hopes, considering the ‘Whites’ have managed just one win in their last eight league meetings with the ‘Foxes’ (D3, L4) courtesy of a 3-1 triumph at the King Power Stadium in January 2021.

Since Leeds won top-flight promotion in 2020, Leicester City have gone unbeaten in both Premier League visits to Yorkshire (W1, D1) despite conceding on both occasions. The ‘Foxes’ wouldn’t mind another similar result as they start this round on the periphery of the drop zone, bettering 18th-placed Everton on goal difference alone. Dean Smith’s side came from behind to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at the weekend, ending a woeful run of eight defeats in nine Premier League matches beforehand (D1). Another slow start may not necessarily backfire on Leicester, given that their last three top-flight victories have come despite them conceding first. Worryingly, though, since a 4-2 win at Aston Villa in early February, the visitors have lost four of their last five away league games (D1).
