Lazio vs Frosinone
Lazio will be looking to build on their flawless home record against Serie A newcomers Frosinone in the 21st century (W2) when the two sides lock horns in their sign-off 2023 fixture at the Stadio Olimpico.
No matter how this contest ends, Lazio will enter the new calendar year outside the European qualification places following a disheartening form across the opening 17 Serie A rounds (W7, D3, L7). However, ‘I Biancocelesti’ will at least hope to piece together back-to-back league wins for the first time since October after putting Empoli to the sword last time out (2-0). Despite ending a two-game winless run at Carlo Castellani (D1, L1), that victory came at a hefty price as Maurizio Sarri lost his standout performers, Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto, to injuries. Lazio can still find a safe shelter at the Olimpico, even though a 2-0 defeat to Inter Milan in their last home outing knocked them down from a six-game unbeaten league streak on home soil (W4, D2).
Meanwhile, Frosinone’s downfall in the wake of a late 2-1 home win against fellow promoted rivals Genoa in late November continued last weekend, with a 2-1 home loss to Juventus extending their winless Serie A run to four matches (D1, L3). No strangers to upsetting the apple cart, the visitors deviated from this troubled pattern in mid-December to obliterate defending Serie A champions Napoli 4-0 in Coppa Italia action. But even though that stunning success came away from home, Eusebio Di Francesco’s men will touch down in Rome seeking their first top-flight win on the road this season (D2, L6). As one of only four Serie A clubs yet to taste victory in the hostile setting in 2023/24, Frosinone’s chances of defying the odds look far-fetched.
