La Galaxy vs Philadelphia Union

LA Galaxy and Philadelphia Union are set to square off at the Dignity Health Sports Park in an exciting Major League Soccer fixture.

Goals on either side of halftime saw LA Galaxy see off cross-city rivals Los Angeles 2-1 in midweek MLS action, putting a stop to a dismal run of four straight league draws and slightly bolstering their chances of reaching the playoffs. Still six points adrift of 9th-placed Vancouver Whitecaps in the Western Conference, Greg Vanney’s men cannot rest on their laurels, especially considering their underwhelming home league record this season (W3, D2, L4). A lack of consistency has witnessed Galaxy alternate between winning (3) and not (D1, L1) across their last five MLS fixtures on home turf, with four of those games seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet, highlighting the potential for a high-scoring contest.

Visiting Philadelphia’s recent showings bode well for such expectations, with four of their last five MLS outings featuring 3+ total goals. However, a 2-0 defeat at Atlanta United on their most recent league travel left the ‘Union’ at one win in four MLS matches (D1, L2), casting doubt on their bid to arrest an abysmal seven-game winless H2H run against Galaxy in league action (D2, L5). That’s not to mention Jim Curtin’s side conceded 2+ goals in six of those seven encounters. Adding to the visitors’ ever-growing list of concerns, they’ve gone from three consecutive away league victories to three straight MLS travels without winning (D1, L2), all of which saw them concede precisely twice.
