Juventus vs Roma

Allianz Stadium forms the backdrop for a blockbuster Serie A showdown between Juventus and Roma.

Marquee frontmanDusanVlahovic couldn’t have picked a better moment to end his two-month scoring drought in Serie A as his late header at Stadio Benito Stirpe inspired Juventus to a 2-1 win against promoted Frosinone, extending their impressive unbeaten league run to 12 matches (W9, D3). That formidable stretch forms part of Juventus’ best 17-game start to a new Serie A campaign since 2019/20, which was the last time they won the Scudetto. However, things are more complicated this season as they trail high-flying Inter Milan by four points despite being the only Serie A side yet to lose a home match this term (W6, D2). That’s a bit odd, considering they’ve netted 2+ goals in only three of their eight top-flight outings in Turin.

Late strikes from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Romelu Lukaku inspired Roma to a 2-0 home win against nine-man Napoli last weekend. In addition to arresting a two-game winless league run (D1, L1), Jose Mourinho’s men maintained a three-point deficit on fourth-placed Bologna, a side that defeated them 2-0 on their last Serie A travel. That was hardly a surprising result, considering Roma’s long-standing struggles on the road that have seen them win just two of their eight away league matches in 2023/24 (D2, L4). Another unpleasant trip is on the cards, with ‘I Giallorossi’ losing six of their last eight top-flight visits to Juventus without scoring (W1, D1). Speaking of blanks, Roma have misfired on four of their six most recent competitive travels.
