Istanbul Basaksehir vs Trabzonspor

Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium is the venue as Istanbul Basaksehir and Trabzonspor go head-to-head in a tasty-looking Turkish Super Lig season finale.

After going winless in four consecutive games across all competitions (D2, L2), Basaksehir have won their last two Super Lig fixtures by an aggregate score of 6-2, including a late 3-2 victory at Adana Demirspor in the penultimate round. Far more consistent on home turf, the ‘Owls are undefeated in their last four competitive matches at the Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium (W3, D1). But it’s worth noting two of those successes were awarded triumphs against Hatayspor and Gaziantep. No matter the outcome, manager Emre Belezoglu would want to forget this season as quickly as possible, with his side surrendering their hopes of securing European qualification long ago. But beating Trabzon in back-to-back Super Lig home meetings for the first time since 2016 could help Basaksehir cap off a woeful season on a high.

On the other hand, Trabzonspor’s title-defending campaign has been an unmitigated disaster, with the visitors seeking three points here to ensure a fifth-place finish. Since a 3-1 defeat away to Fenerbahce in mid-May, the ‘Black Sea Storm’ have hit the ground running in the Super Lig, racking up a three-match winning streak by an aggregate scoreline of 13-4, impressively scoring 4+ goals on each occasion. Delivering action from the get-go, Nenad Bjelica’s team netted over 1.5 first-half goals in all three victories, highlighting the potential for a quick-fire start. But not even a halftime lead would guarantee a triumph for Trabzon, as they’ve won just 50% of their away league matches when going up at the break (W2, D1, L1).
