Inter Milan vs Torino

Newly-crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan entertain mid-table Torino at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in their first outing as the division’s new supreme force.

Inter Milan became the joint-earliest Serie A champions with a 2-1 derby win against AC Milan earlier this week, earning a second golden star on their jersey for their 20th Scudetto. Simone Inzaghi’s men have dominated Serie A this season, losing just once in 33 league games (W27, D5). Particularly impressive at Meazza, they’ve dropped points in just two of their last 12 home league outings (W10, D2), which is part of the reason they’re still in contention for a 100-point landmark. However, they must win all five remaining matches after blowing hot and cold across their last six competitive games (W3, D2, L1). Torino’s visit bodes well, considering Inter’s recent dominance in this fixture, highlighted by four consecutive H2H home wins since a 2-2 draw in 2018.

Meanwhile, back-to-back 0-0 draws against Frosinone and Juventus have seen Torino live up to their tag as ‘entertainment killers,’ leaving them trapped in mid-table, safely away from the bottom three but nowhere near the European spots. Torino’s chances of closing an eight-point gap on seventh-placed hinge on beating Inter for the first time since January 2019, but their recent performances on the road paint a bleak picture. Except for a 2-0 win at relegation-battling Udinese in mid-March, they’ve failed to win four of their last five Serie A matches on the road (D2, L2). Defensive resilience could be the key behind Torino’s potential success at Meazza, with only Inter (19) keeping more clean sheets in the Italian top flight than Ivan Juric’s side (17) this season.
