Inter Milan vs Como
Stadio Giuseppe Meazza sets the stage for the first Serie A encounter between Inter Milan and Como since 2003.
Following a stuttering start to their Scudetto defense, Inter Milan are firmly back on track, as most recently witnessed by a 6-0 rout of fellow title rivals Lazio! Simone Inzaghi’s side followed that result with a comfortable 2-0 win against Udinese to set up a Coppa Italia quarter-final date against ‘I Biancocelesti,’ making it 13 victories from their last 16 outings in all competitions (D2, L1). In addition to winning three league games on the trot since Serie A returned to action from November’s international break, ‘I Nerazzurri’ have defeated Como in their last seven top-flight H2Hs. Though this is their first encounter in Serie A in over two decades, Inter could make history by posting a 13th consecutive home win against a specific opposition for the first time.
Visiting Como will be out to take advantage of Inter’s indifferent six-game league form at Meazza (W3, D2, L1) and build momentum after last weekend’s heart-stopping 2-0 home win against Roma. Cesc Fabregas’ side notched up both goals in second-half stoppages to halt a dreadful nine-game winless run in Serie A (D4, L5) and escape from the drop zone. However, the visitors sit only fractionally off the bottom three, largely thanks to their disappointing away record (W1, D3, L5). Indeed, ‘I Lariani’ are winless on their last five league travels (D2, L3), netting under 1.5 goals on four occasions. On the bright side, the abovementioned win against Roma marked Como’s first clean sheet during this Serie A campaign, setting them up nicely for this mouth-watering trip.
