Inter Milan vs Bologna

The two sides that have had identical returns from their opening three Serie A matches (W2, D1) go head-to-head at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as Inter Milan take on Bologna.

After suffering late heartbreak against Real Madrid in their Champions League opener at home (0-1), Inter will be desperate to return to winning ways in Serie A. Last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Sampdoria away from home halted Inter’s two-game winning league start under new manager Simone Inzaghi. Despite a sizeable gulf in quality between the sides, Bologna’s visit to Giuseppe Meazza may not provide the reigning champions with ‘another day in the office,’ considering the hosts have lost two of their last three Serie A H2Hs at this venue (W1). However, the ‘Nerazzurri’ have been a fun team to watch this term, with each of their three top-flight fixtures thus far featuring 4+ overall goals. Additionally, Inzaghi’s men have netted 2+ goals in each of their last eight Serie A games, 2020/21 included.

In the meantime, Bologna’s impressive start to the season has seen them amass seven points from their opening three league matches for only the third time in their top-flight history. Though it will require something special, a victory here would see the ‘Rossoblu’ pick up three wins from their inaugural four games of a new Serie A campaign for the first time since 2001/02. Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men have drawn three consecutive league fixtures away from home despite falling behind within 23 minutes of play twice in that period. The last time they drew four road trips in the competition on the spin was in December 2008, incidentally under Mihajlovic. Given that they’ve scored in all ten previous top-flight trips to Inter, the visitors will believe an upset here is possible.
