Inter Milan vs Atalanta
Stadio Giuseppe Meazza is the venue as Inter Milan and Atalanta battle it out for a place in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.
Inter Milan came from a 1-0 halftime deficit to dispatch second-tier Parma 2-1 after extra-time in the previous round to make it out to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals for the ninth season on the spin. Simone Inzaghi’s men conquered the competition last season, courtesy of a 2-1 win over Juventus in the big final, and could win back-to-back titles for the first time since 2010/11. Atalanta’s visit to Meazza can offer Inter more confidence, considering they’ve not lost any of their last eight H2Hs on home turf (W5, D3). But ‘I Nerazzurri’ have to make amends for an underwhelming 1-0 defeat to Empoli in their most recent home outing, which knocked them down from an outrageous nine-game winning home streak.
In the meantime, Atalanta humbled fellow Serie A rivals Spezia 5-2 in the last round to qualify for the Coppa Italia quarter-finals for the second season running. Though they’ve not entered the semi-finals since 2017/18 and are winless in their last eight meetings with Inter, home and away (D5, L3), ‘La Dea’ will take the field in a buoyant mood. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have enjoyed a near-perfect start to the new calendar year (W4, D2), netting an intimidating average of 3.66 goals per game across those six fixtures. However, the visitors have managed just one triumph on their last four domestic travels (D2, L1), casting doubt on their bid to win at Meazza for the first time since 2014.
