Inter Miami vs New York Red Bulls
Out-of-sorts Inter Miami will be desperate to bounce back from a rotten spell of form when they take on high-flying MLS franchise New York Red Bulls at the DRV PNK Stadium.
Since beating Atlanta United 2-1 in late April, Inter Miami have gone winless in four consecutive MLS fixtures (D2, L2), going from a brace of defeats ‘to nil’ to back-to-back draws. However, they can take some confidence from their three-game unbeaten home league form (W2, D1). High scoring has been a common theme in that three-game sequence, as all three fixtures have seen both teams on the scoresheet in matches garnering 3+ total goals. Another ‘goal-friendly’ contest could be on the cards, given that three of Inter’s four previous MLS meetings with NY Red Bulls have featured over 2.5 goals. Unfortunately, the ‘Herons’ have found themselves on the losing side in three of those four H2Hs (W1), failing to score in the last two.
Meanwhile, New York Red Bulls have drawn their last three MLS outings since a 2-1 win at Chicago Fire in early May, coming from behind to avoid defeat twice in that spread of games. But it’s worth noting that no MLS side have won more away points than the ‘Red Bulls’ (16) this season, with Gerhard Struber’s lads winning their opening five road trips before a 1-1 draw at Philadelphia Union on their most recent travel. While only New York City (3) have shipped fewer away goals than NYRB (4) in the Eastern Conference, no team has netted more goals than Struber’s boys (14) thus far. So it comes as no surprise that the visitors have gone unbeaten in both away MLS fixtures in which they conceded the opening goal this season (W1, D1).
